Description
The Eastern Coal Region Roundtable serves mine scarred
Appalachian
watersheds through training, capacity building and providing a collective
voice for underserved communities seeking to restore the well being of their
citizens and environment. This includes educating and communicating with
decision makers, encouraging collaboration and information sharing among
watershed groups, disseminating information about relevant funding
opportunities, and providing resources to help watershed groups write
successful funding proposals.
Responsibilities of Board Members
Upon your appointment as a Board Member, you assume an
obligation to fulfill the aforementioned purpose of the ECRR. In addition, you
will have the following responsibilities;
Administrative
- Attend and participate in all board meetings and functions
(at least 4/ year).
- Accept the responsibilities of any office to which you are
elected. Serve on committees and present reports of accomplishments
fulfilling all offices to the best of your ability.
- Assist fellow board members in establishing ECRR policy.
- Develop an annual budget. The budget should include
operating funds, equipment, and staffing needs.
- Hold an annual election of officers.
- Establish sound business procedures required for
accounting and financial management of ECRR affairs.
- Provide for an annual audit of ECRR accounts in accordance
with applicable state/federal laws.
- Perform duties with integrity, avoid conflicts of
interest, and refrain from using office for personal gain.
- Be willing to support financially the ECRR.
Programmatic
- Keep informed on legislation and policy of county, state,
and federal government pertaining to coal mining and reclamation. This
includes maintaining contacts with local, state and national elected
officials.
- Maintain close contact with reclamation agencies,
including the federal Office of Surface Mining, and enlist them as
advisors to ECRR.
- Participate in developing and distributing an annual report
of ECRR activities and accomplishments.
It is the responsibility of any board member who finds it
impossible to fulfill these obligations because of poor health, lack of time,
or any other reason, to resign from office in order to assure the effectiveness
of ECRR.
